Christ’s Friendship – Its Intimacy
In today’s guest post, deeper Christian author and renown pastor from yesteryear, Andrew Murray declares: “The highest proof of true friendship, and one great source of its blessedness, is the intimacy that holds nothing back, and admits the friend to share our inmost secrets.” But what if such was the case with not a mere “friend” but the Friend of friends, Jesus? We are far more than servants to the Living God, we are called His friends. Read more

Les Miserables
I have heard from several sources that Les Miserables is probably the most popular Broadway show on earth. It has traversed the entire globe and is popular even in countries that do not have theatre productions. While it ranks as one of my favorites, I have never read the book upon which the musical is based. Thus, about a week ago, I downloaded a free copy of the abridged version (900 pages rather than the unabridged 1400) onto my Kindle and set off reading. The book, I will quickly confess, is far superior and even more delightful than the musical or movies made on it. Read more
Breaking Up the Fallow Ground
When we open your lives bare before the Spirit and allow Him to pierce, probe, correct, and transform us, He takes us into greater depths and richness than we have ever experienced. To enable you to walk through every area of your life – often those we never think about – and allow the Spirit to reveal His light in every crevice, there are several tremendous helps that individuals have put together. Lately, I have been walking through an article written by Charles Finney entitled “Breaking Up the Fallow Ground” (this edition has been edited and paraphrased by Keith and Melody Green). May you slowly walk through this process and allow the Spirit’s transformation in your life go to a whole new level. Read more
Quote 015 :: A Restless Pursuit
Men are in a restless pursuit after satisfaction in earthly things. They will exhaust themselves in the deceitful delights of sin, and, finding them all to be vanity and emptiness, they will become very perplexed and disappointed. But they will continue their fruitless search. Though wearied, they still stagger forward under the influence of spiritual madness, and though there is no result to be reached except that of everlasting disappointment, yet they press forward. They have no forethought for their eternal state; the present hour absorbs them. They turn to another and another of earth’s broken cisterns, hoping to find water where not a drop was ever discovered yet. Read more
Funeral Director
A couple weeks ago I participated in a funeral – not as the man in the casket but as one of five pastors on the stage. This happened to be a very lively funeral with lots of singing, dancing, passionate preaching, and lots of great memories shared. Though a very somber time (it was a funeral), I couldn’t help but stifle a continuous giggle throughout the whole ordeal. And it was in the middle of this hour-and-a-half funeral that I felt God press a wonderful calling on my life. Read more
God’s Indescribable Power – Part 4
Paul is attempting the seemingly impossible – trying to put words to describe God’s power. In the midst of his prayer for the believers in Ephesus (see Part One), Paul begins to explain what that power is like (see Part Two). As he concludes using four different Greek words for power in Ephesians 1.19, he steps back and gives two illustrations of the power of God demonstrated in the world (see Part Three). It is as we take this overarching view of the two illustrations that three ideas or concepts come forth that give greater clarity to God’s power. Let’s take a look at the first concept.
