Quote 019 :: Our Greatest Need
A Christian worker’s greatest need is a readiness to face Jesus Christ at any and every turn. This is not easy, no matter what our experience has been. This battle is not against sin, difficulties, or circumstances, but against being so absorbed in our service to Jesus Christ that we are not ready to face Jesus Himself at every turn. The greatest need is not facing our beliefs or doctrines, or even facing the question of whether or not we are of any use to Him, but the need is to face Him. Read more
You Are the Man! (2 Samuel 12.1-7)
Have you ever been caught red-handed? You know you did something terribly wrong and suddenly were exposed? All the darkness, the secrets, the lies, all laid out on the table in public view? Has your heart ever been so hard as not to care? A relationship with Jesus is based upon the concept of brokenness, willing to be exposed and surrendered in every area of life. A hard heart is NOT the heart of a believer. Yet sadly, there can be times when our hearts become stiff and crusted where only God Himself can soften and cleanse. Such was the case with David. A Continuous Revival
A.W. Tozer, the famous preacher, writer, and editor of The Alliance Weekly, wrote this brief statement about the following article by Norman Grubb:
We present here the first of two remarkable articles on revival by Norman P. Grubb . . . Mr. Grubb is successor to C. T. Studd us director of the Worldwide Evangelization Crusade, and as such has sought to maintain the same spirit that has made that society dear to the hearts of countless thousands of revival-minded Christians throughout the world . . . We are in complete accord with the truth set forth in these articles. . . . May we of The Christian and Missionary Alliance have the humility to learn from this missionary brother the way into a new place of revival and power. Our world-girdling movement had its birth in just such an atmosphere as is here described. . . . May God help us to recapture this glory—at any cost. Read more
Decreasing for His Purpose
My life tends to be busy. While I usually enjoy such a pace, it can often throw off normal routines such as posting on this site. This week has been abnormally busy and hence, no posts since Monday. A passionate desire. Five years as a dream. One year of active progress … sorta.
I’m a book fanatic, especially the classic Christian books on what the Christian life is suppose to be. Much of what is in the bookstores today is fluff or garbage, to be blunt; and I should know, I use to worked seven years in a Christian bookstore. But since that time of dusting shelves and laughing at titles, I have had a great desire to compile an annotated guide to deeper Christian life books – basically a list and short description of the greatest of great Christian books out there (several of which are out of print). A year ago I even purchased several domain names to which to build this concept around – a place online where you could get the grit, gusto, and grand quotes and books from the heroes of the faith. Quote 018 :: The Missionary
Dr. AJ Gordon refers to an address delivered by a man of God before the London Missionary Society. By prayerful study this man had sought to reproduce a true picture of the apostolic missionary. This address created a great tumult when it was delivered, because of the startling contrast it suggested “between the ancient and modern policy of methods and missionary labour.” Dr. Gordon says, “He was addressing a society that a little before had greeted with applause the declaration of a speaker who had said, ‘If I were asked what is the first qualification for a missionary, I would say prudence; and the second, prudence; and the third, prudence.’” Little wonder that, when this man of God reproduced the apostolic missionary as a man self-abandoned and of sublimely dominant faith, his fleshly brethren were greatly annoyed and aroused to no small commotion. Here is a portion of that eloquent pen-picture of God’s Apostolic Missionary: Read more
