Wanna Trade A Sentence for a Book?
My life is often stuck in the gear of busy. I usually don’t mind it; however, with so much on my plate, I have not had the time to dedicate to blogging that I wish I could. I have three sites waiting to transform from Model-T to Mustang and this one that is wanting a new paint job. But it got me thinking about what is “under the hood” of the sites. I have a purpose for each site which influences its content and makeup but do the few readers understand the purpose? So I had a thought: I’ll trade you a book for a sentence. Read more
The Love of God
Have you pondered the love of God? Not a mere passing thought but a deep contemplation on God’s love? God does not HAVE love, so says the book of 1 John, God IS love. It is not something He has but Who He is. It is the foundation of His nature and the compulsion of His character. We cannot begin to understand Who our indescribable God is until we clearly see Him as a God of love. Read more
The Way Back … To Freedom
I purposely don’t watch many movies. However, on rare occasion, I come across one that I feel compelled to rent and watch. Several weeks ago I saw that “The Way Back” was out, and, having seen the trailer some time ago and was intrigued, decided to sit down and watch it while organizing my filing cabinet (yea for multitasking). When Something Critical Is Lacking
I have a fondness for grand quotes of the Christian life. I am always looking for a pithy quote that says it just right. While I have several individuals who have become favorites over the past few years, I am always on the lookout for a new and fresh voice (even if the voice is several hundred years old). I have been intrigued with JC Ryle as of late, who seems like a solid man of God from years past. I have been receiving Ryle’s quote a day and found his words refreshing. Until today. Read more
A Twister, A Twister!
In the early morning quiet hours, it is often hard to distinguish between one’s melodious alarm on the phone and a similar chirp of a phone call (both have similar songs). With my eyes tightly shut, snuggled in bed, I heard my alarm to which I groggily swaggered over to my desk to turn it off when I realized it was not an alarm but a phone call. Read more
The Weight of the Cross
Ever since I was little I loved to read. Though I don’t have as much time for it as I would like nowadays, I try to squeeze in a few pages every night and if I’m lucky, throughout the day. One of my quirks, however, is that I tend to read five or six books at the same time. I jump between them based on my mood and what I want to dive into that day. Several months ago I had started a great old book called Crowded to Christ, which I tried to finish up last night. While the whole book has been greatly pressing to my soul, a small passage on the weight of the cross made me stop in my tracks. Read more
The Sounds of Crashing Cymbals
A few weeks ago, I stopped at Walgreens to track down a particular brand of vitamins I was looking for. Having been told this brand is outstanding (and cheap), I finally made my discovery in the back corner of the store, to my great delight. While reading the label, my eye caught a large stack of boxes containing red super fruits (a powered mixture of healthy super fruits to mix into a drink for added vitamins, minerals, and other health benefits I have no idea of). They were 50% off and so I decided I might want to try a box. As I turned to leave I noticed another box of sample daily vitamins that you could have for free if you purchased a bottle of vitamins (which I held in my hand), so I picked that up too. But it was as I approached the checkout counter, the kind lady gave me the most startling news … Read more
